Motorola Edge 50 Ultra: High-End Specs and Speedy Charging, with a Few Flaws

Motorola’s newest premium phone aims high

Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is the company’s latest premium handset, packing massive storage and extremely fast wired charging. It also comes with a handful of small blemishes.

Edge models sit at the upper end of Motorola’s lineup, approaching flagship territory. The Edge 50 Pro, reviewed in mid-April, delivered several flagship-class features at a 699 euro price point. The Edge 50 Ultra raises the stakes in a few areas and positions itself as a lower-tier flagship for 999 euros.

Memory, storage, and finishes

The Edge 50 Ultra ships with 16 gigabytes of LPDDR5X RAM and a generous one terabyte of storage. Customers can choose from three finishes: Peach Fuzz and Forest Gray in vegan leather, and a wood-textured Nordic Wood option used in the review unit.

The phone measures 161.1 x 72.4 x 8.6 millimeters and weighs 197 grams, making it relatively light for its class.

Display

The handset uses a 6.7-inch pOLED panel with a 144 hertz refresh rate. The 1220p resolution display supports HDR10+ wide color and reaches up to 2,500 nits peak brightness. The screen does not include LTPO or an Always On Display feature.

Cameras

The rear camera array includes three sensors and a single front-facing camera. The main shooter uses a 50 megapixel sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and optical image stabilization. A 50 megapixel ultrawide doubles as a macro camera. The third rear module is a 64 megapixel telephoto lens capable of up to 100x hybrid zoom and it also features optical stabilization. Up front there is a 50 megapixel autofocus selfie camera with an f/1.9 aperture.

Battery, charging, and durability

The Edge 50 Ultra packs a 4,500 milliampere-hour battery. It supports 125 watt wired fast charging and 50 watt wireless fast charging. The phone carries an IP68 water resistance rating.

Software and updates

It runs Android 14 with Motorola’s Hello UI layered on top. Motorola is promising three years of Android version updates and four years of security updates for the device.

What’s in the box

The retail box includes the phone, paperwork, a compact but powerful 125 watt charger, a USB-C cable, and a small protective case. That included plastic case is slim and protective enough for basic use, but it feels slippery in hand and may not absorb impact particularly well if the phone falls on its side.
