Honor Magic8 Pro Brings Flagship Power and Camera Prowess to Global Markets

Design and build

Honor has introduced the Magic8 Pro outside China, including a launch in Finland. On paper it is a full-fledged flagship and in hand it lives up to that billing.

The Magic8 Pro borrows much of its styling from the Magic7 Pro, with a premium finish and a solid, well-balanced frame. It weighs 219 grams, a touch heavier than average. The phone’s back is plastic, but the material feels high quality and provides good grip without feeling slippery.

A large circular camera module dominates the rear and is shaped so the phone sits surprisingly steady on a table. The matte dark finish on our review unit looks restrained, resists fingerprints, and feels elegant.

Honor has pushed durability here. The front is protected by NanoCrystal Shield glass, which the company says is tougher than typical smartphone glass. The device carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for protection against water, dust and high temperatures.

Display and front-facing hardware

The Magic8 Pro’s 6.71-inch OLED uses LTPO technology and 2.5D curved edges that blend into the frame. The curvature is subtle and avoids accidental touches.

Resolution is 1,256 × 2,808 pixels, which may not be the absolute highest spec on the market but delivers excellent perceived sharpness at normal viewing distances.

The panel scales refresh rate dynamically from 1 to 120 Hz, dropping for static content to save power and rising for smooth UI motion where supported. Color reproduction covers 100 percent of DCI-P3 and the display supports Dolby Vision and HDR Vivid. Honor also implements PWM dimming up to 4,320 Hz to reduce eye strain in low light.

A pill-shaped cutout at the top houses a 50-megapixel selfie camera and a 3D TOF sensor for secure face unlock. An under-display fingerprint reader sits in the lower half of the screen.

Performance and software

The international Magic8 Pro ships with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB UFS 4.1 storage. Honor also offers 12 GB of virtual RAM. That combination places it among the fastest Android phones available.

In real-world use the phone handles demanding mobile games like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty Mobile on high settings smoothly. Under sustained heavy load the device heats up and performance drops slightly, but not dramatically.

Benchmarking against similarly equipped rivals showed close competition. In Antutu the Magic8 Pro and a OnePlus 15 (same chipset) led the pack, with OnePlus edging ahead in some tests. Geekbench 6 results were mixed, with Honor taking a partial lead. In PCMark Honor performed strongly, while 3DMark Wild Life Extreme placed the Magic8 Pro just behind the OnePlus 15. Solar Bay battery tests also favored Honor by a small margin.

The phone runs Magic OS 10.0 based on Android 16. The interface is modern and fluid, with polished animations, dynamic theming and useful widgets. It is not wholly minimalist and includes some preinstalled apps you can remove. Honor promises a 7 + 7 year update commitment.

Camera system

The Magic8 Pro’s rear camera module is the phone’s headline feature: a 50 MP main shooter, a 200 MP telephoto camera and a 50 MP ultrawide make for a very capable trio.

The 50 MP main camera features an f/1.6 aperture, a 1/1.3-inch sensor and optical image stabilization. It captures detailed, natural-looking photos with modestly tuned processing for contrast and color. The main camera performs well in low light and Night mode produces bright, detailed shots. A variable aperture from the previous model is not present.

The 200 MP telephoto camera (f/2.6) offers a 3.7x optical zoom (85 mm), a 1/1.4-inch sensor and OIS, with AI-assisted stabilization. Digital zoom extends up to 100x, though image quality naturally declines at extreme magnification. Optical zoom shots remain sharp and deliver useful reach beyond what the naked eye resolves.

The 122-degree ultrawide (50 MP, f/2.0) does its job well, and the 50 MP front camera (f/2.0) handles selfies cleanly. Video capture supports up to 4K at 120 fps on the rear camera and 4K at 60 fps on the front.

Overall the camera system is balanced and there are no glaring weaknesses, making the Magic8 Pro a strong choice for users who prioritize imaging.

Battery and charging

The international Magic8 Pro packs a 6,270 mAh battery. That capacity easily delivers a full day of heavy use, and moderate users can expect up to two days.

When you need to top up, the phone supports 100 W wired fast charging and 80 W wireless fast charging, plus 5 W reverse wireless charging. With a USB-PD charger the phone reached a full charge in under an hour. Honor’s own charger could be marginally faster, but no charger is included in the box.

What’s in the box and price

The retail package includes only a charging cable, so you will need to buy a wall adapter and a case separately if you do not already own them.

The Magic8 Pro is priced at 1,299 euros for the 12 GB / 512 GB configuration and competes with heavyweights like the Google Pixel 10 Pro, Galaxy S25 Ultra and OnePlus 15.

Conclusion

The Honor Magic8 Pro is a flagship that combines top-tier performance, an excellent display, long battery life and an impressive camera array. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivers class-leading speed, and the 50 MP main, 200 MP telephoto camera and 50 MP ultrawide cameras cover almost every photographic need.

Its weaknesses are minor: no charger or case in the box and a plastic rear panel, albeit a high-quality one. For 1,299 euros the Magic8 Pro represents a strong value among premium Android devices and is an easy recommendation for buyers who want a high-end camera phone with robust performance and a long update promise.
